Welcome
Core Structures is a small engineering company focused on difficult multiphysics problems involving nuclear fuel and other structures in the reactor core. Much of our current work is built around HeavyMetal, an internally developed multiphysics finite element code used to study problems involving deformation, heat transfer, contact, and material transport. HeavyMetal grew out of our obsession with fuel images like the one shown here and our efforts to understand how different physical processes in a fuel system are interconnected. We also have extensive experience adding specialized physics to commercial finite element software.
Our overarching goal is to reduce the time and cost required to bring reliable fuel systems and core components into service. If we can be of assistance, please reach out to us at contact@corestructuresllc.com
